People

To paraphrase a great line used by Tom Arnold in the movie "True Lies," "people...can't live with 'em, can't kill 'em."

What is causing the increase in the level of rudeness these days? The recession? Reality TV? Bad parenting? A giant river of slime flowing under the country? (Ghostbusters II reference...)

You see it all the time if you look for it. If you haven't, probably the best place to do some field research is a Starbucks in a wealthy suburban neighborhood.

Anyway, last night, my cutie and I went out to dinner at a restaurant nearby where we had been before. In fact we went there the day they opened (not realizing it was opening day) and had a lot of fun chatting with the staff...they weren't busy.

Last night though, they were. I dropped Faith off and parked the car around the block. When I got there she was sitting next to the last remaining bar stool. (We prefer eating in the bar and, apparently, that is catching on.)

In the time that she was there without me, there were at least four serious attempts on the stool. Including one from the hostess!! She finally offered to rent it till I got there (which was less than 5 minutes). Of course, there is no harm in inquiring about an empty seat but you cross the line when you don't accept the answer and, instead, start challenging the person saving it...and it is INSANE to run and get the hostess to pull rank!

This was AFTER someone literally cut in front of her to grab three seats on the corner. A nicely dressed professional-looking suburban mom type!

There was a little satisfaction to be had...the bartender remembered us from opening day and got our drinks before the three on the corner...and they were visibly irritated. But, they were jerks to the bartender the whole time they were there...right up to the end when they complained to him about the bill.

Oh well, the food was good and the drinks were great...but the customers...yikes!!

State Basketball Tournament

Colin's team had to play their first game against a team of "streetball" players that was rated two brackets higher than the Wildcats 2. They played at 8am the day daylight savings time started...really 7am!

It did not go well. They lost but put up a good fight...if we had one more quarter we might have even won...

Next, the battle for second place. (But, of course, it is really about the fun.)
